Nerve as Model Temperature End Organ

چکیده

Rapid local cooling of mammalian nerve sets up a discharge which is preceded by a local temperature potential, the cooled region being electronegative relative to a normal portion of the nerve. Heating the nerve locally above its normal temperature similarly makes the heated region electronegative relative to a region at normal temperature, and again a discharge is set up from the heated region. These local temperature potentials, set up by the nerve itself, are held to serve as "generator potentials" and the mechanism found is regarded as the prototype for temperature end organs.

Comparison of nerve repair with end to end, end to side with window and end to side without window methods in lower extremity of rat

Abstract   Background : Although, different studies on end-to-side nerve repair, results are controversial. The importance of this method in case is unavailability of proximal nerve. In this method, donor nerves also remain intact and without injury. In compare to other classic procedures, end-to-side repair is not much time consuming and needs less dissection. Overall, the previous studies i...

Vestibular activation does not influence skin sympathetic nerve responses during whole body heating.

The cutaneous vasculature and eccrine sweat glands are modified by both thermal and nonthermal factors. To determine the effect of thermal stress on the vestibulosympathetic reflex, skin sympathetic nerve activity (SSNA) and cutaneous end-organ responses were measured in 10 subjects during static head-down rotation (HDR) and dynamic yaw and pitch (30 cycles/min) to activate the otolith organs a...

The Thermodynamics of Nerve and Electric Organ

The study of the thermal events accompanying the generation of electrical currents by living tissues has a very respectable antiquity. The first attempt, admittedly unsuccessful, to measure nerve heat was made by Helmholtz in 1848; and it was not until 1925 that Hill and Gerard first succeeded in detecting the temperature rise in a stimulated nerve (for a full history, see Hill, 1965). The firs...

مقایسه گرافت عصب محیطی با روش معمولی و به روش معکوس در اندام تحتانی موش صحرایی

Background: Autograft is the best option in nerve defects when end-to-end repair can not sufficiently preserve nerve continuity. Theoretically, if the severed nerve is reversely grafted, it may prevent axonal growth into nerve branches, and larger amounts of axons will reach the target organ and more satisfactory results will be obtained. In this study we aimed to compare conventional versus re...

Testosterone Depletion by Castration May Protect Mice from Heat-Induced Multiple Organ Damage and Lethality

When the vehicle-treated, sham-operated mice underwent heat stress, the fraction survival and core temperature at +4 h of body heating were found to be 5 of 15 and 34.4 degrees C +/- 0.3 degrees C, respectively. Castration 2 weeks before the start of heat stress decreased the plasma levels of testosterone almost to zero, protected the mice from heat-induced death (fraction survival, 13/15) and ...
